In Memoriam: Spencer Shorte
It is with deep sadness that we pass on the announcement of the passing of Spencer Shorte on January 8, 2025. Spencer was not only a cherished friend and colleague, but also one of the pioneers in core facilities. His contributions as an amazing microscopist and exceptional visionary leader in core facilities, have left an indelible mark on our community.
Spencer's passion for his work and his innovative spirit inspired us all. His legacy will continue to influence and guide us in the years to come. He will be missed dearly.

Core for Life is happy to encourage the recent publication ‘How tech-savvy employees make the difference in core facilities’ by VIB, one of our institutional partners.
Over the past decades, we have established Core Facilities to enable the scientific community in their research by providing access to technology and adequate expertise. Core facility jobs are different from jobs in research labs and there is a need for a general framework for core facility careers, separate from existing frameworks that have been specified for research lab personnel.

Core for Life Annual Technology Forum 2023 Leuven
The C4L Annual Technology Forum 2023, will be hosted in Leuven, Belgium from September 27th to 28th, 2023. The technology forum is our yearly get-together of the C4L community. All members will be able to interact with each other, break out sessions for the different working groups are foreseen, as well as visits to the local core facilities.
